Checklists

Aircraft Exterior Inspection w/Engine Warm-up  912

 

Starting at the Front Wheel (proceed clockwise)

 

  • Front Axle Bolt and Nut in Place – no wheel wobble
  • Steering Tiller Attached - all Items on it Firmly in Place
  • Right Steering Bar in Place – Mounting Bolts and Nuts in Place
  • Right Steering Bar -  No Excessive Movement
  • Steering Bar Pulley Attached and Not Restricted
  • Steering Line not Frayed and Tied Off to Airframe
  • Right Line Lock in Place and Operational

 

  • Shake Unit to see if Anything is Loose
  • Front Seatbelt is Mounted – Loosen the belts
  • Insure CG Plate is Mounted Firmly and CG is Set Correctly
  • Line Pulley at CG Plate is attached and not Restricted
  • Gas Tank is Full – Remove Gas Cap to Visually Check
  • Replace Cap
  • Rear Seatbelt is Mounted – Loosen the belts

 

  • Right Shock Absorbers Firmly Mounted – Slight Movement When Pulled
  • Right Axle Bolt in Place
  • Right Axle Nut in Place
  • Confirm no Lateral Tire Movement – Note Torque Paint Not Damaged
  • Move Right Tang into Place
  • Check prop for Nicks or any Damage

 

  • Move Left Tang into Place
  • Check Gascolator for any signs of fuel leakage - insure safety wire is intact
  • Left Shock Absorbers Firmly Mounted – Slight Movement When Pulled
  • Left Axle Bolt in Place
  • Left Axle Nut in Place
  • Confirm no Lateral Tire Movement – Note Torque Paint Not Damaged

 

  • Insure CG Plate is Mounted Firmly and CG is Set Correctly
  • Line Pulley at CG Plate is attached and not Restricted
  • Left Steering Bar in Place – Mounting Bolts and Nuts in Place
  • Left Steering Bar -  No Excessive Movement
  • Steering Bar Pulley Attached and Not Restricted
  • Steering Line not Frayed and Tied Off to Airframe
  • Left Line Lock in Place and Operational

 

Engine Warm-Up

 

Confirm all switches are in the “Off” position on the Instrument Panel

 

  • Return to Engine Area – Remove Oil Res. Cap - Place on Front Seat
  • Rotate the Prop Counter-clockwise until Oil Res. Burps
  • Oil Level Confirmed – Replace Oil Res. Cap
  • All Caps in Place
  • Minimum Fluid Level in Radiator Overflow Bottle
  • All Sparkplug wires in place
  • No Loose Items in Engine Area

 

  • Start Engine – Full Choke – No Throttle
  • Mags “ON” – EIS ‘OFF” – Start Switch unmoved – Boost Pump “ON”
  • CLEAR PROP!!!!!
  • Hold Start Switch Until Engine Starts
  • EIS “ON” – Insure Oil Pressure is over 12 psi
  • Boost Pump “OFF”
  • Choke “OFF”
  • RPM to 2400 Until Oil Temp is 120 degrees
  • RPM to 3000 Check Mags One at a Time for RPM Drop
  • Return to Idle – Wait a Few Seconds

 

  • Shutdown Engine – Mags “OFF” – EIS “OFF”- Start Switch “OFF” 
  • ALWAYS LEFT TO RIGHT

 

 

 

Before Takeoff Checklist

 

 

  • Chute Lines Not Near Prop Ring – Untangled
  • Brief Passenger – Insure They are Buckled In
  • Get in Seat
  • Buckle Seat Belt
  • Eye Protection - Put On and Buckle Helmet
  • Turn on Radio/Intercom
  • Put on Gloves
  • Check Wind Direction 

 

 

  • Mags. “ON” – EIS “OFF” -  Start Switch Unmoved – Boost Pump “ON”
  • Clear Area and Check Chute Lines One More Time – CLEAR PROP!!!!!
  • Put Feet on Ground or Hold Brake
  • Turn Start Switch Until Engine Starts – EIS “ON” (Insure Oil Pressure) – Boost Pump “OFF”
  • Check Chute Area
  • Place Feet Onto Steering Bars
  • Release Brake – Begin Takeoff Roll
